Taking flight
Prophecy
eight dragons with wings of from two tribes
six shall fly,
One shall die,
and one shall freeze the world
Unless the dragon of all tribes is found
Prologue
Shimmer, the rainwing flew as fast as she was gripping an egg in her talons. She spread her wings as she skidded to a stop. She had scales in a variety of colors but mainly purple and pink. Shimmer stepped closer to Sting-Ray, the seawing who was guarding the perimeter.
“Sting-Ray I found the last egg we need.” Shimmer said, handing the gray seawing the the final prophecy egg.
Sting-Ray took the egg from Shimmer and inspected it closely to verify it was a hybrid egg. He nodded and emit a glow from his scales. Shimmer understood aquatic so she nodded and took the egg back from the gray seawing.
Sting-Ray pushed the boulder covering the cavern manually and Shimmer slipped inside.
Shimmer set the egg down with four other eggs. The egg started to crack open and a small green dragonet came out.
The dragonet was mostly green except for the fact that her ruffs, the underside of her wings, and her leafwing fins were all a purpley red color.
The small dragent fell on her face and she let out an inaudible roar. She looked up at the older dragons in the room which included Shimmer the rainwing , Polar the icewing , and Owl the skywing.
“So what do we call her?” Polar asked, her voice warm and sweet.
“How about Kiwi?” Shimmer suggested.
“Like the fruit?” Owl interjected.
“No you idiot,” Shimmer growled, slapping Owl with her tail, “like the bird.”
Kiwi was now hiding behind one of the other eggs, scared by the older dragon's kerfuffle.
“Don't be afraid, little one.” Shimmer soothed as she put her tail around Kiwi’s small body.
They all turned their heads when they heard a crack. One of the other eggs was hatching. Kiwi tried to go over to the egg but Shimmer’s tail stopped her.
A black, purple, and blue dragonet fell out of the egg, her body emitting a glow. Kiwi was in owe by the new dragonet in the hatchery.
‘What do we name this one?” Owl wondered.
“It has to be a nightwing and seawing name.” Polar made sure to add.
“Look at the underside of her wings.” Shimmer gently lifted up the dragonet’s wing, “her glowing wings look like stars.”
“Yeah you're right they do look like stars.” Polar admitted, mesmerized by the glowing dragonet.
“How about Aquastar?” Owl exclaimed as he tried to reach for Aquastar but failed because she moved out of the way.
Kiwi looked at Aquastar and her scales changed from green to yellow. Aquastar looked at Kiwi. Her eyes widened. As if saying what the how did you just change color, but because she just hatched she didn't know how to speak yet.
Shimmer thought for a moment and then spoke, “we’re gonna need to teach them all aquatic.”
“Agreed.” Polar responded, her talons already reaching for a scroll on the shelf in the cave wall.
“One step ahead as always.” Owl commented his tail carefully wrapping around his girlfriend’s avoiding her spikes.
Polar’s face lit up and she muttered something under her breath as she looked up at Shimmer. Polar’s stormy gray eyes showed she was clearly enjoying her boyfriend's kind gesture but her face showed the exact opposite.
“This scroll should have everything we need in order to teach them.” Polar slowly handed Shimmer the scroll.
Shimmer examined the scroll and read a guide to the dragons of Pyrrhia and Pantala. By: Cricket, Turtle, and starflight. She put the scroll in the pouch on her neck and looked over at the two dragonets and the two eggs. She smiled. She felt calm. What would go wrong, sure the prophecy said they need eight and that one of them would die but, still nothing could take away the fact that she now had a family to care for was a dream come true.
Part one
Cave-in
Chapter one
Six years later
Kiwi opened her mouth as wide as she could, and a poisonous venom shot out of her mouth. The venom landed on the bullseye of the target at the other side of the cave.
“That was your best shot yet Kiwi!” Shimmer exclaimed.
The female dragonets scales shifted in color to show that she was embarrassed. Shimmer walked up to her and touched her own wing to Kiwi’s. Her scales changed to be a bit calmer.
“I think you’ve had enough training for today.” Shimmer said, worried about her apprentice.
“I think so too.” Kiwi said some of her scales now blue.
Kiwi and Shimmer both headed to the main cave where Kiwi’s friends were.
The main cave was the biggest cave in the cavern Kiwi and her friends had grown up in. The cave had stalagmites and stalactites almost everywhere.
Kiwi looked at her friends who were all a part of a prophecy just like her. Aquastar is the second to oldest, she is a seawing nightwing hybrid. The third oldest is Silk, a silkwing icewing hybrid. Mesa is the youngest because he was born two months after the others, he is a mudwing sandwing hybrid.
Aquastar jumped up and wrapped her wings around Kiwi,”how was training,” she asked.
“It was okay I guess,” Kiwi said, shrugging trying to force her scales to turn normal.
Aquastar looked down and she was clearly worried for her sister. She folded her wings back and slowly drifted over to the cave pound to catch a fish to eat.
“You guys might get to leave the cave tomorrow.” Shimmer stated.
“REALY!” Mesa exclaimed, bouncing up and down.
“I hope so.” Shimmer said some of her scales turning blue.
Kiwi opened her wings and slowly flew to a hanging hammock near the hole in the cave where the sun can be seen. She folded her wings in and wrapped her tail over her head and drifted off to sleep. While she was sleeping Kiwi was sure she heard the stone start to crack around her.
Kiwi awoke in a familiar dream. She was in a kingdom under the water but there was a shield to keep the water out of the kingdom to make sure there was air. A bunch of strange dragons lived in the kingdom, almost all of them had four wings and more than one tail. But the main thing she noticed was that they all were much bigger than skywings, the biggest tribe.
Suddenly the dream changed, it seemed as though she was in the strange tribe's throne room. A huge dragon sat on a throne she had four wings and three tails; rainwing, sandwing, and leafwing. The Queen looked worried but somehow she still looked so calming.
A dragon burst through the throne room door, “Queen Atlanta,” he said out of breath, “the prophecy has started!”
“I know,” she said, her voice small for such a huge dragon.
“What do you mean?” the male dragon asked.
“I sent out an animus-touched object to find the dragonets of the prophecy and it did.” The queen said.
“But the prophecy said that all dragons except for allwings will die unless they find you.” the male dragon spoke once again.
“I know so I sent out another animus object to the oldest of the prophecy.” Queen Atlanta spoke in a calm voice. Kiwi knew the queen was talking about her.
“What did you enchant the object with?” the male dragon questioned.
“I made it so If they decide to wear the bracelet it will give them nightwing visions and turn them into an animus.”
Kiwi’s eyes flashed open and she was back laying hammock but she held a bracelet in her talons.
